1 month to go...

I've got one month until I make my big move, and so far the summer is going well. Unfortunately I have to withdraw half my roll to pay my last rent, but meh that's life.. it should be the last time I have to withdraw all year though, so I guess it's a decent trade-off.

Lately I've been talking to raze about the idea of changing sites.. and it's something that he has convinced me is a good idea. I'm playing poker for 2 reasons.. 1) I find it fun as hell 2) To win money. I can do #1 at whatever site I want.. but I have a problem with #2. I'm winning money sure... but as raze points out, why play at the toughest site available when other, softer sites are out there. Sure, he has the advantage of living in a country that doesn't control it's citizens like the American government likes to lately, but there are still some softer sites for me to play on. It's something I've always wanted to do, but I always went back to Stars because I'm most comfortable there. I think what I plan to do is, build a decent roll on stars, and move part of it to another, much softer site, so that I can play mtts and 180s on Stars and grind everything else on the other site. I think this will give me a decent enough balance to maximize my profit.

The plan for the next month will probably consist of grinding the hell out of multi-table sngs..mostly 180s.. and playing mtt's on occasion.. to try and win a decent amount of money. While I haven't really stuck to any of my goals, I feel I've had a pretty solid 2009 so far, despite a lack of any real grinding. Hopefully, I can really push myself the next 3-4 weeks or so.

Do I blog anymore?

I realized it's been way too long since I've blogged, but to be honest, I haven't really had anything blog worthy in the past month or so. I really haven't played much, and when I have.. I've pretty much played like crap. Although lately, I've been busy debating how I want to proceed my future of poker playing. Whenever I've played lately, the majority of my play has been cash games.. but I feel like I've got this huge gap in my game when I'm playing.

I never really took the time to learn the complete basics.. just enough to turn me into a "winning" player. I feel like I'm missing a lot of money by not having solid fundamentals, through missing smaller edges or by leaking/spewing money in spots I really shouldn't be losing money in. These thoughts have caused me to have a bit of a debate with myself. On one hand, I feel like I could continue to play 10nl, retool my game and continue from there. On the other hand, I feel like I should almost start over. Go back down to 2nl, 1-2 table and just start over. Rework my game totally, adjust for each level/table/player.. get myself a solid understanding of the fundamentals, and then start moving up from there to crush each level.

I've talked to a few people about this, and some worry I may not take 2nl serious, but I know I've never had any trouble taking it serious, as it's all poker, and it's all about adjusting on the fly. Also there is worry (mostly from myself) that I'm doing this to hold myself back, and forcing myself to stick to my comfort zone. I think there is truth to it, but I honestly don't think I have the right tools and game to beat games higher than 25nl at the moment. So I think if I do go this route, it will hold me back in the short-term..but we know poker is a long-term game..and I think in the long-term, doing this would allow me to go further than my current abilities could take me.

Life (caution.. rambling about pretty much nothing):

Life has been pretty meh lately. Nothing real exciting. My family recently found out I'm moving away, and they don't seem thrilled about it. It would be great to have their support, as I'm making the move whether they like it or not.. but if they don't support the move, well.. they are the ones that have to deal with it imo. I've spent some time hanging out with friends lately, and it's weird to see how the dynamic of a group can change depending on which friends are present. I have one friend that is a very mellow guy when it's just the two of us hanging out.. but when another of our friends (if life were a poker game, he would be labeled "tight passive")arrives, the first friend makes an attempt to almost belittle the 2nd friend in a way that just comes off as bully-ish and immature. The two are friends, and get along fine despite this...but the 2nd friend would never say anything about it to the first friend..it's not his personality. The change in this dynamic is quite strange to me, and is something I hate to see. I think part of it stems from a little man complex (I'm a touch under 6 foot, and about 275.. friend 2 is 6 foot 4 360ish.. while friend 1 is about 5 foot 8 190ish) and he feels he needs to try and become alpha-male-ish..... oh the male ego.. quite annoying sometimes.

Rambling time over....
