Oh 2010.. where did you go? You were a pretty good year even if I didn't achieve a single goal I set for you. My first mtt win and 4 figure score... finally got a job.. finally have an idea what I want to do post-graduation... have some things finally going in my favor.... not too shabby I guess. Now to keep the momentum going in 2011...
2011 Goals
Poker
[] Five-figure profit year
- My four figure years have been nice..but I'm ready to step it up. This will be by far the biggest bankroll I've had going into a new year.. combined with solid confidence and me finally feeling like my game isn't the worst ever. Plus, with an engagement ring to buy, a wedding to help pay for, a cpa exam to review and take soon... I'll need all the money I can get!
[] Four four-figure mtt scores
- I had my first taste of that juicy 4 figure score juice...and I want more! With the volume I plan on putting in with mtts.. I think averaging one per quarter is pretty solid.
[] 100nl regular
- Last year I had delusions of grandeur.. thinking I could be a 200nl reg by years end... especially since I was jobless for most of the year and had to grind out every little penny I could. This year I'm going to be more realistic and go from being a 25nl player to a 100nl reg.
[] Work on improving my game
- Next year I really want to focus on getting better. This will include posting way more in uNL and SSMTT.. as well as getting some coaching/sweating for both mtts and cash games. I also am aiming to qualify for 1 free CR's week every month.. since that allows me video access for 3 weeks.
[] 1,250 tournaments.. or 2000 games played between mtsngs and mtts
- This should not be a tough goal.. that's 25-40 games per week
[] 100,000 hands
- Also not a tough goal..only 2000 hands per week.
[] Remember to take time off.
- I find that I don't take nearly enough time off from poker..and only do so when I'm playing really shitty and am downswinging. Next year I want to take at least one full day off per week from everything poker.. and twice I want to take one complete week off.
School
[] B or better in all classes.
[] Start studying for the CPA Exam
[] Get some sort of internship
[] Teach myself different accounting software
Life
[] Lose 50 pounds
- I think I can do more than this.. but I think ~ 1lb per week is a pretty solid goal to hit. I've started hitting the gym the last two weeks and I feel tons better. Next year I really want to step up the intensity, and improve my eating, so that I can start really seeing results.
[] Start trying new things
- I've gotten better with trying new foods.. now I want to start trying new activities.. things in the area. I'm kind of sick of just sitting at home allll the time and it would be great if I could find a group of people outside my gf's parents to meet up with for some activity once in awhile.
[] Get engaged!
- With poker and work.. and school coming to an end kind of soon.. things are finally coming together where I can finally get a ring. I'm hoping to have this goal done by the end of May.
[] Save some money
- I've never been a big saver.. but it is definitely time to grow up and start. I'm kind of hoping to cheat with this and earn a bunch of money playing poker so that I can have a nice 1500-$2000 or so in the bank.
[] Read 6 non-poker books
[] Complete 1 5k per quarter.. be able to run the last one.
[] Keep improving my organization ability
[] Complete all of the major projects on the house
- Not too many major projects left.. so I'd like to get them done. Quite a few minor projects that I'd like to get done.. but it is the major ones that are bugging me.. especially since I can't do them on my own.
[] Get a new video game system
- Odd goal after my save money goal.. but I enjoy playing video games.. and my ps2 isn't doing it for me anymore. I'm not picky.. I just need a system that carries the newest NHL games.. and has Guitar Hero.. which is both the 360 and the ps3.. I'm leaning toward the ps3 with the free online games.. but I'm still undecided.
gl to everyone in 2011.. I hope you all pwn life and poker.. and exceed all of your goals :)

November Results
On a laptop at the moment.. so won't be able to post graphs. At one point I was well on my way to my first $1,000 month.. but I decided playing Rush Poker was a good idea and ended up losing 12 buyins in like 1000 hands.. so I still had a decent month, but it's hard not to feel disappointed. I finished up 8 buyins or so at 25nl.. and finished up 600 or so after getting 2nd in one tournament and 3rd in another (bah! still can't close!) The rest of this blog is a copy/paste of my goals.. and then talking about how I did.
Poker
[x] 10,000 hands of 10nl
- I might throw some 25nl over thanksgiving break if I'm playing well.
Played something like 12-13k hands.. almost all at 25nl.. a few at 10nl.. a small amount at 50nl... but 1/4 of them or so were at rush, which is not good.
[] Play solid
- The last few months I've started strong and then played like shit at the end of the month.. something I want to correct.
Ugh.. failed this one. Was great until the last week of the month and I just tanked. I was playing when I was tired... I wasn't as intense with my workouts.. I was just off all week.
[] Take one day off from everything poker
- Part of problem leading to the goal above this one is that when I'm running well.. I play a lot..which is good for the bankroll but leads me to burning out.
Failed this late in the month :(
[x] Hit at least bronze ironman and at least one week of cardrunners. Qualify for 1 a day freeroll.
Hit all 3 of these goals... although I regret not doing the bronze goal differently, as it cost me a lot of money for very little reward.
[] Blog at least one time per week.
- I enjoy the blog as it keeps me focused and forces me to be honest with myself. Also, I find it fun seeing where I was at awhile ago.
More like every other week.. hopefully next month I can get a few more.
[] Less BQ posting.. most uNL and ssMTT posts.
- The goal that is always a failure.... some day I hope to be as involved in those communities as I am in BQ.
I did cut down on BQ posting.. did post a bit in strat... want to post even more next month.
[] 100-150 sngs/mtts, show a profit.
- I've had a friend sweat me when playing mtt's, and it has really helped me fill holes where I was just leaking small amounts of chips over and over again. Plus I've started playing my own game instead of what everyone else is playing and I feel like so far, it is working well.
Not quite 100... maybe 70-80.. and def showed a profit :)
Poker goals end here... so if you don't care about anything else... stop here :).
Health and Fitness
[x] Pay out less than $20 to my friend in my get healthy bet.
- Every Sunday I have to map out when I'm going to the gym that week... if I don't go, he gets $5. Any time I drink pop, it's $2. Any time I eat fast food, it's $5. This goes on until Jan 1st, where hopefully I will have a solid routine going.
Came in at $17! :) Very solid.. hope to do the same next month.
[] Be able to run at least 1 mile on the treadmill.
Nope.. focusing on starting strength instead of cardio for now.
[] Start using fitday and keeping a journal.
Nope.
[] Start learning how to meditate.
Sigh.. nope.
School
[x] Register for Spring classes
[/] A work on everything
Mostly.
[] Finish all work early that I can (esp. music and marketing classes.)
Nope.. I slacked.
Life
[X] Be employed
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
[] Read one book on Nook
Nope
[] Pick a random article on wiki that sounds interesting, and spend an hour or so each week researching it... just to know more about it.
Nope
[] Read/watch more news.... try to have a better understanding of what is going on.
kind of.
[/] Try 4 new recipes
I think we tried 2 new recipes.. I can't remember.
[/] Complete 2 projects around the house.
Redid the bathroom.. new paint, some new fixtures.. but the was the only project..... unless you count rearranging the living room and putting christmas stuff up.

Mid-Month Update
Well.. it is the first day of the 2nd half of the month.. and so far I've been pretty happy with my month. I decided to step up to 25nl and have run quite well there so far. Hopefully I can keep that up and start to feel very comfortable at the level.
I've done pretty well with playing solid all month, and I've tried to take at least one full day off each week... although that could improve since I still check 2+2.
I didn't blog last week so hopefully I can start with once per week. Still posting too much in beginners and not enough strat :(
So far I've played 66 sngs/mtts.. abi of $4 and I'm down about 25 buyins... so no biggie yet.
Health-wise I'm doing pretty well. Through 15 days, I've paid out $7... one fast food meal, with no pop..... and one pop while eating mexican food... so that puts me well under the $20 cap that I gave myself. I also haven't missed a trip to the gym yet and have actually gone 4 times each week.
School has been meh.. but I have plenty of time to pick it up in the next 2 weeks.
I'm finally employed!!!! I've started training at radioshack. This will be great for me for so many reasons. Consistent income.... getting out and talking to people.. not having to withdraw so that I can actually build a bankroll. I'm pretty pumped about this.
Haven't really done any of the other goals yet this month.. but I'm going to start focusing on them. We plan on redoing the bathroom in the next week or two.. as well as reorganizing the office. We did try 1 new recipe... lasagna rollups... really tasty, but we forgot to put them away so they were no good the next day :(

November Goals
I'm hoping November is as great, if not better than October. November is going to be a bit of a transition month... trying to get in more hands, plugging leaks getting ready for 25nl....... so that I can be ready for a big grind (hopefully all at 25nl) over my winter break from college so:

Do people really update their blog?
It appears I don't... or at least I haven't in quite some time. Not much has changed... I'm still grinding micros, I'm still cashing out way too often, and I really haven't reached any of my goals. However, things might be looking up! I've been playing much better poker lately, I might be getting a job that I will enjoy.. which will take the pressure off having to withdraw, and I am finally starting to get going on getting into shape (having a bigger friend txt'ing me a few times a week telling me how much he's lost has boosted that for me).
After starting October running hotter than the sun.. I cooled off a bit (and also played like shit) toward the end and decided to take the last week of the month off from serious grinding. Instead I've been playing $2 sngs on stars, along with some $4/180s and an mtt here and there. I took 4th in a $4/180 and 1st in a $2/90... which was always fun. The main reason for playing on Stars is to clear the $10 stellar bonus that I'm 20 vpp away from clearing.. but winning while clearing a bonus is always great fun. Also, since Stars works on my gf's netbook, it allows me to cuddle next to her on the couch while playing a bit... keeping both of us very happy. Hopefully this job thing comes through and I can afford to buy myself a nice poker laptop and can just play all the time while on the couch.
With November on the horizon.. I feel confident that it will be another very good month, hopefully even better than October. I'm not quite sure what my goals will be but November goals will be my next blog post (probably Thursday morning).... I do know I will be setting a few lofty goals, as I really want to push myself and be ready for a ton of grinding during my winter break from school.
Until next time... :)

Wait.. what?
Wait.. how did it become March already? It seems like it was just last week I was setting all these awesome goals for 2010 and I was pumped to really kill this year and finally break through the micro stakes. Well instead, the job I got didn't pay as much as I thought it was suppose to.. nor did I get as many hours as I was hoping.. so I've been grinding sng's in order to make the money necessary for my summer trips. Had a decent start to the year.. burned out around mid-February and lost 1/3 of my bankroll. I was able to cash-out what I needed for my summer trips.. which was a plus.. so now I'm able to get back on the cash game wagon. Right now I'm playing 10nl 6max.. 3 tabling on stars... with about 30 buyins. I'm thinking I can hit 25nl by the end of the semester (beginning of May).. and looking to be a 50nl reg by the end of the summer (end of August). I think it might be a bit of a stretch, but do-able as long as I stick with the grind. I still think I can hit my goal of being a 100nl reg by years end. Oh yeah.. I also plan on a deep run or two in the scoops :)
I've realized I need to change the way I approach poker... again. I've been trying like hell lately to grind and get some much needed cash.. and for the 4th straight month, I start out well, but I burn-out by mid-month. I then take some time off.. and then finish out the month strong, along with starting the next month off well. Instead, I'm going to be proactive when it comes to my schedule.. and make sure to take a day or two off completely from poker.. no forums, no videos, no mindless playing while watching tv. Also, one day a week (probably Sunday's after my donkaments) I'm going to focus on learning a new game each week, so that I can get better at mixed games.
March Goals
10,000-12,000 hands
Be close to moving up to 25nl
Play 8 or less mtt's this month.. hopefully including the turbo takedown
3 dc videos per week
Go through hand histories every Sunday night
Spend one day per week learning a game from horse, starting with lhe
Post/read more uNL and nl forum on dc.. less in BQ
Take advantage of the sweat session owed to me by verneer
Personal
Start looking for new jobs
Exercise 5-6 days per week
Fast food less then 5 times
Lose 8-10 lbs
Be able to run 1 full mile
Get into a good sleep schedule
Enough rambling I guess. My next few blog posts (if anyone actually reads this) will be me whoring poker stars some more for their contest for at least one free $22 scoop ticket.. with a chance to get more.

Just....... crap
The title says it all about how I've been playing, and feeling, when I play the last few days. Too aggressive, too passive, too loose, too tight, nitty, spewy.. that's been me the past 3 days or so. I think it's just being out of a regular life schedule, so I just kind of put in hands when I'm bored, instead of being in the right mindset. Tuesday I restart classes... and life will go back to normal... and with that normal life, I think will my focus appear.
